LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is a hands-on, experiential process designed to facilitate 100 percent participation in meetings and to access answers which are not otherwise readily apparent. In a typical LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® session, participants are posed a series of questions which build upon each other and are designed to probe the individual and the collective group. Participants are asked to use LEGO® bricks and construct three dimensional models which operate as metaphors and story-telling devices. LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® employs kinesthetic, auditory and visual learning styles to optimize the shared learning experience of the group.
The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® methodology:
LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® is based upon the premise that the answers to the questions posed reside within the system and can be brought forth through the construction of three dimensional models using LEGO® bricks. The models are a platform for group discussion, sharing and problem-solving. The LEGO® bricks and models serve as a common language among participants regardless of age, experience level, education or status.
There are numerous studies in the field of neuroscience demonstrating that only five percent of our cognitive activities operate on a conscious level. The remaining 95% of our brain activity occurs at the subconscious level. The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® taps this vast reservoir of knowledge by asking participants to “trust the brick” and begin building without overthinking the construction of their models. As a result, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® produces rich results not accessible through traditional means.
